Title: Sentinels of the GreenWay, Silent Guardians of Nature
Marble figures wrapped in gold-toned wire stand at the entrance of the GreenWay as silent guardians of nature and the environment. Wire-formed Roman numerals bound to their legs trace the flow of memory, movement, and continuity. Inspired by traditional Korean boundary guardians, CheonhaDaejanggun & JihaYeojanggun, the figures connect ancient protective symbolism with the urban ecology of the Cooks River.
The two sentinels embody different rhythms of place. Sentinel 1 (X, III · XI) reflects the faster pulse of human crossings along the GreenWay, while Sentinel 2 (II, VII · XXX) follows the slower cycles of branching waterways and ecological time. Through marble’s permanence and wire’s delicacy, they express resilience, care, and protection for the fragile balance between humanity and the natural world.
Two rhythms. Two guardians. One connected GreenWay.
