The Schwarzschild Limit I, II, III
This series explores the cosmic threshold where matter condenses under extreme gravity. Through folded ceramic forms and intricate hand-rendered notations of the Schwarzschild formulae, the work visualises the curvature of spacetime. The progression from an empty field to a suspended mass captures the tension between gravitational collapse and quantum vibration.
Medium: High-fired stoneware, cobalt matte and gold lustre glazes, underglaze inscriptions, gold-plated wire, suspension system and marble base.
Technique: Hand-built slab construction with multi-axis manipulation, hand-rendered scientific notations, and multiple firings with a final lustre firing to 750°C.
The Schwarzschild Limit I
A central mass emerges, introducing structure and internal order. (30 × 35 × 35 cm)
The Schwarzschild Limit II
A folded field without a central mass, holding tension before formation. (28 × 32 × 30 cm)
The Schwarzschild Limit III
Suspended in space, the form balances gravity and tension at the threshold of collapse. (30 × 35 × 35 cm)
Artist Note: The process of folding and manipulating clay on multiple axes is an analogue for the warping of space. Woven wire structures and mathematical inscriptions serve as a visual lexicon, mapping the invisible laws of physics onto the ceramic skin to bridge the gap between tactile materiality and theoretical abstraction.
